CNY Group Selects Advanced Products "Majestic" Series Railing System for Iconic NYC Landmark Woolworth Building

Over 1,200 LF of our Majestic Series Powder Coated
Aluminum "Commander" Glass Railing System will top the
newly renovated Woolworth Building in New York City.

When renovations began to convert the top 30 floors of the historic Woolworth Tower into luxury condominiums, the CNY Group was chartered with the task of adhering to New York City's strict building codes while maintaining the aesthetics of one of the world's most famous landmark buildings. One of their most challenging tasks was to ensure the safety of the residents of the top floor penthouse balcony, without compromising the look of the building's neo-gothic exterior. The original railings no longer met current NYC building code but they did not want to simply remove and replace them - as that would change the original look.

The solution resulted in the CNY Group selecting Advanced Product's Majestic Series Powder Coated Aluminum "Commander" Glass Railing System to sit behind the ornate facade. The glass panel solution provided the perfect option and allowed for unobstructed viewing of the architectural details from both sides of the facade. The wide range of powder coat color finish and infill options allowed CNY Group to select a combination that complemented the existing design while providing a low-maintenance railing solution.

By working together with our engineering team, we were able to develop a solution for securing the railings to the 100 + year old building which necessitated designing a custom mounting system. This system had to withstand the stress and strain of high winds, allow for connection to the structure below the walking surface, be waterproofed and become water tight, all while meeting the aesthetic requirements of the project - certainly a challenge we were happy to help solve.

The project will use approximately 1,200 LF of railing along the inside of the existing balcony which surrounds the perimeter of the Observation deck that tops the seven-level $110 million residence. Slated for completion by the end of 2017 and we are looking forward to being a part of this historic renovation project.
